The Scheme

The preferred route for the A66 Transpennine road upgrade has been announced. The scheme proposes to upgrade seven sections of single carriageway to dual carriageway along the A66, this includes five bypasses and one underpass alongside additional improvements for both motorised and non-motorised traffic.

Highways England plans to ensure the entire route is dualled in both directions along the full 50-mile route. The project will see a proposed investment of approximately one billion pounds.
