Calling Rural Business Entrepreneurs
George F White is once again seeking entrepreneurial farming businesses that have established new enterprises to enter its prestigious Farm Diversification Award 2012.
The Award will be presented at The Driffield Show on Wednesday 18th July and comprises a £500 prize and a trophy. It is open to farmers who have diversified to establish a new enterprise which has been operating for less than five years. The 2012 Award will be presented by Louis Fell and Tom Mason, Partners with George F White and based in the firm’s Shiptonthorpe office which covers Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
Tom Mason, Partner with George F White said: “We are looking for farming businesses which have used their skill and innovation to develop a new product or service on their farms. We are hoping this year’s entrants will match and even exceed the high-quality of previous years and are thrilled to be sponsoring the award again.”
Last year the award was won by Raisthorpe Flyers, run by David Medforth from his family farm at Raisthorpe, Thixendale. David and his wife Julia manage a well-organised business offering simulated clay pigeon shooting and shooting days. David Medforth said: ”Like many farmers we have identified ways of diversifying our business and look to develop new products and services. Winning the George F White Award last year was fantastic recognition of the work we have done.”
Runners-up last year were Cream of the Wolds, who specialise in luxury homemade ice cream and sorbets; Great Newsome Brewery, producers of significant quantities of quality Yorkshire ale; Beverley Maze, which combines a mix of fun for all ages through the maize maze, giant sandpits, pedal go-karts and trampolines; Cold Harbour Farm, home of Calf House Studios which provide facilities for artist’s in peaceful surroundings and Fieldhouse Flowers, who grow traditional flowers on their farm at Everingham. Each presented a strong case for winning the award themselves and highlighted the diverse variety of farming business enterprise in the area.
