Diversified Yorkshire farms shortlisted for award
Three enterprises from Yorkshire have been shortlisted as finalists for the 2015 George F. White Farm Diversification Award. The Ginger Cow Company, Everingham; Humble Bee Farm, Scarborough; and Staal Smokehouse, Beverley, have been named as the three shortlisted entries and will be judged over the coming weeks by Partner’s from George F. White.
The award which will be presented at the Driffield Show on Wednesday 22nd of July recognises farms in the area that have recently diversified and established a new business, with the chosen winner awarded a cash prize and engraved silver salver.
Anna Morley, Rural Chartered Surveyor at George F. White explains: “We look for farm businesses which have used their skill and innovation to diversify their business and develop a new product or service on their farm in the last five years. Many farmers have found diversifying their farm an extremely rewarding way of providing a stable income and improving profitability in a time of volatility in agricultural markets.”
Tom Mason, Partner at George F. White said: “We are impressed with all the entries we received this year and are looking forward to visiting the entries. It is always extremely rewarding to present this award. It is an opportunity to celebrate businesses that have clearly identified the market they want to target and even in the early stages of their business have demonstrated a successful return on investment.”
Previous winners include the ‘Three Little Pigs’ a “perfectionist producer” of cured meats based in East Yorkshire, Stepney Hill Butchery and Farm Shop (2013), Anna’s Happy Trotters (2012) and Raisthorpe Flyers (2011).
