King of an Egg Farm
George F. White have today announced the sale of what they say is “One of the most substantial Poultry Units to come onto the market for some considerable time.”
This is Saunders House Farm a 34,500 bird free range egg production farm, near Richmond in North Yorkshire, benefiting from a woodland egg premium. The sale includes the Kingfisher Farms brand and the purchaser will be able to take over this business name as part of the sale, along with a wholesale contract with Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs.
This farm located at Barningham, in North Yorkshire has been developed in recent years and is now an outstanding modern production unit with capacity for 34,500 hens. Included in the sale are:- four poultry buildings, a traditional four bedroom farmhouse, a two bedroom farmhouse annex, stables, a range of traditional and modern farm buildings and approximately 48 acres of temporary grass and permanent pasture.
Kingfisher Farms is a well established egg business and a strong local brand which supplies free range eggs to the wholesale market and the local community. Kingfisher Farms currently have a contract to supply eggs to Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs, and the benefit of this contract will be provided to the purchaser upon completion in order for them to continue this custom.
Jonathan Wallis of George F. White says that, “This is a very unusual opportunity and is the first time that George F. White has had such a well established poultry business to sell. It is one of the foremost poultry farms in the area and will provide someone with the opportunity of setting up their own free range egg production business or for an existing producer to expand their existing egg production business.”
The four poultry buildings each have their own egg packing room with automated conveying and packing equipment and feed conveying systems. Two of these which can house 8,000 and 8400 free range hens respectively are fully insulated steel portal frame buildings with computer controlled fan ventilation systems. A third building has the benefit of a fan assisted natural ventilation system and is fully fitted to house 2,000 free range hens. The fourth is a fully insulated converted steel framed former cattle building which has afan assisted natural ventilation system and is fully fitted to house 16,000 free range hens. This building also benefits from an egg grading room with grading and packing equipment into half dozen egg boxes.
Saunders House Farm is part of the Higher Level Scheme, and local primary schools have educational access. Kingfisher Farms also benefit from British Industry Egg Council (BIEC), Freedom Foods and DEFRA Egg Marketing accreditation, certificates of which will be transferred to the purchaser in order for them to benefit from these.
Due to tree planting at Saunders House Farm, 16,000 hens qualify for woodland egg premium in respect of the supplies to Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs which gives a 3p premium per dozen eggs from these hens.
