And They’re Off On A Weekend Of Family Fun
The crème de la crème of Yorkshire’s amateur jockeys and horses will be thundering through the grounds of Hornby Castle at one of the region’s best days out on Saturday April 13th this year.
Staged at Hornby Castle since 1947 and one of the most anticipated meetings in the Northern Point to Point calendar, the event is a fantastic country day out for all the family, whether you fancy a flutter on the gee-gees or not.
Bedale Point to Point winners’ podium is again sponsored by George F White, Rural Chartered Surveyors, Bedale. The company’s founder George White is himself a keen follower of the sport and trainer of horses.
This year, George F White will be sharing its stand with representatives of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT), which has been working to boost numbers of “at-risk” game birds in the region. Its black grouse project has already transferred a number of these iconic birds to the Yorkshire Dales and Trust members will also be available to talk to visitors about its innovative satellite tracking “Woodcock Watch” initiative.
Tim Brown, who heads up the firm’s Property Agency team at Bedale, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust on board this year. They do sterling work, often behind the scenes, and all those who appreciate our country’s diverse wildlife should take the time to understand better what service the Trust provides. The Bedale Point to Point will I hope offer many that opportunity on the day.
“Race goers will have plenty to discuss when they come to see us from information about conservation in Yorkshire, plus the chance to chat with members of our team about issues ranging from the current property market, the price of farmland to the continuing CAP negotiations in Europe.”
The Bedale Point to Point marks the first major event in North Yorkshire’s spring/summer social and sporting calendar. Entertaining – and hotly contested – pony racing gets the day under starter’s orders at 12.30pm before the major race card itself starts.
The feature races include the Members’ Race, open only to horses that have qualified through the Bedale Hunt, and the Ladies’ and Men’s Open, which are set to play a key role as jockeys gather points towards this year’s Yorkshire Area championship.
The Bedale Point to Point is almost as famous for its friendly, sociable atmosphere as it is for its racing, which this year will benefit from major improvements to the Course which winds its way through the parkland under the gaze of Hornby Castle itself, home of the Clutterbuck family.
Admission to the Bedale Point to Point is £25 per car, or £10 per person if less than three people in the car.
