Land and Farm Sales
With the traditional spring and summer period for marketing land and farms underway, land, property and business consultants George F. White are negotiating numerous private and publicly marketed sales and purchases across the North.
Simon Britton, Partner and Head of Farm Business Consultancy, based at George F. White’s Bedale office, says: “We are seeing land and farms come to the market for a variety of reasons including retirement and business re-structuring.”
Commodity prices remain low and the EU Referendum is causing uncertainty, with opinion polls and arguments from both sides closely monitored by those involved in agriculture. The outcome could have a significant impact on UK farming incomes directly through subsidy payments, trade deals and the exchange rate, however an exit could take five years or more.
Simon continues: “Buyers in the market continue to be predominantly farmers and investors. Land still offers attractive tax incentives and there are buyers who have benefited from development windfalls who are looking to reinvest into land.”
Matthew Brown, Rural Practice Surveyor at George F. White’s Bedale office, says “We expect to see a more varied market than in recent years. Average prices have shown signs of levelling off and we expect this to continue in the short term. However, quality desirable land farms and sporting estates are in demand both locally and nationally and we expect prices to remain high on the back of strong demand.
George F. White have an exciting equipped farm and small sporting estate coming to the market in the next few weeks, in addition to numerous farms and bare land for sale in Yorkshire, Durham and across the North.
