A leading North East property consultancy has expanded its 70+ strong team with the recruitment of seven roles over the last five months as well as three graduates becoming fully qualified chartered surveyors in the last week.
George F. White is experiencing strong growth following the recent launch of a new office, with a fully serviced team, in Durham and partner appointment of Andrew Creighton as head of commercial.
Robyn Peat, managing partner at George F. White, said: “Despite the pandemic-induced challenges, the business has grown steadily this year and we’ve continued to expand our vast range of property, planning and development services, to help meet specific client needs”.
“The team has grown by 10% in the last five months, we’ve taken on a range of new clients in sectors such as architecture, farm business and commercial, and we’ve opened a new office in Durham due to increased demand in the area for housing, planning and farming advice.”
Development surveyor Rhys Jones, commercial surveyor Victoria Huntley and Ellie Exelby, a rural surveyor, are now fully qualified RICS Chartered Surveyors who bring a diverse mix of skills to the consultancy reflecting the expansion of the range of services provided by George F. White.
Jones and Huntley are based in George F. White’s Newcastle office, but operate across the region, and Exelby works out of the consultancy’s Yorkshire office.
Peat added: “It’s great to see Ellie, Rhys and Victoria become qualified surveyors; our record with APC students is something I am very proud of and I look forward to them continuing to develop and grow within the business. They bring to the business the kind of specialist skills we need as we continue to bolster our presence in the region and beyond”.
“While we offer a vast range of diverse and structured consultancy support, it’s also vital to provide specific expertise in each of these areas too”.
“It’s what our clients deserve, and expect, in a turbulent environment with ever changing legislation and regulations.
“We’re here to inform, advise and guide businesses to help them weather some of the toughest conditions they’ll ever experience, and create opportunity at a time of adversity.”

Cumbria farmer, Richard Addison has been welcomed to George F. White as a Graduate Rural Surveyor.
Richard has joined the Northumberland & Borders team at George F. White to bolster the ever growing rural professional team having recently graduated from Harper Adams University where he achieved a BSc (Hons) in Rural Enterprise and Land Management.
Tim Michie, Partner at George F. White, said “We are delighted to welcome Richard to George F. White; he is a strong addition to our team here in Alnwick. Richard brings a lot of energy and willingness to learn, a vital quality to see in a graduate and I am confident that Richard will continue to develop and learn within the excellent mentoring programme we have within the business”.
On his decision to join George F. White, Richard said “I am very excited to be starting my chartered surveying career with George F. White. Having recently relocated into the Alnwick area, I am already aware of the strong reputation the firm has within the local community. I was over the moon to be offered a graduate position as I believe the business is the perfect place to develop my knowledge to help me with my professional exams in the near future”.
Richard is involved with all aspects of rural practice surveying within the regions in particular focusing on valuations, selling and purchasing rural land and property, compulsory purchase and compensation matters and farm dispersal sales having already had the gavel in his hand at one of the recent farm dispersal sales.
Local farmer, James Thompson, has been welcomed back to George F. White as a Graduate Surveyor after a successful university placement year.
James re-joins our team to bolster the growing rural professional and farm consultancy services in our Shiptonthorpe and Bedale branches. James recently graduated from Newcastle University where he achieved a BSc in Agribusiness; the degree requires students to undertake a placement year, in which James carried out successfully with us back in 2016/17 and proceeded to impress the management team. Not only does James have an exceptional understanding of the business, he grew up locally to the area and boasts an outstanding level of geographical knowledge.
Simon Britton, Partner and Head of Yorkshire at George F. White, said: “We are delighted to welcome James Thompson back to George F. White; he is a strong addition to our growing team here in Yorkshire. A graduate position at George F. White is a great place for James to start his career; we have a strong team of eleven, in which over 65% were recruited at graduate level and are currently working towards or sitting in management positions. James brings a lot of energy and willingness to learn, a fantastic quality to see in a graduate and certainly the qualities that we expect to see in our employees. I am confident that James will continue to excel throughout his APC studies and over the course of his professional career, we promise to nurture his talent as we have his colleagues.”
James achieved a first class grade on his dissertation which focused on government policy in agriculture and farm diversification in the North and East of Yorkshire; in light of the current political climate, James’ research will prove extremely useful to local farmers and his agricultural background will allow him to relate to the day-to-day operation of a farming business.
On his decision to continue his studies at George F. White, James said: “Having lived locally to the Shiptonthorpe office, I knew of the strong reputation that George F. White has in the community. Whilst on my placement year I not only discovered that the employees at the firm are one big family but also have a great depth of knowledge in such a wide range of enterprises in the rural economy; I was over the moon to be offered a graduate position as I believe George F. White is the perfect place to learn and practise my knowledge to help me with my professional exams in the near future. “
We have strengthened our foothold in the North East commercial sector, providing a greater range of services and expanding the team with three recruits into our Newcastle office.

James joins the team from a previous role at Building Surveyors Ltd and brings with him specialist surveying expertise in commercial building surveying, with a focus on acquisition and investment surveys, dilapidations, asset management and project works.
Speaking about his appointment, James said: “Establishing the building surveying service offering at George F. White represents a fantastic opportunity where Building Surveying aligns perfectly with the needs of its ever diversifying client base. I have always been passionate about building surveying and this role gives me a fantastic opportunity to establish a new team. I am delighted that within the first few weeks we have already established a market presence in Newcastle and the offering has been universally well received, with new work coming in already for private and corporate clients.”
In addition to James, the team has also appointed Victoria Huntley and Rhys Jones as Graduate Surveyors and to expand the team’s Commercial and Planning and Development team capability. Both are based at our Newcastle centre office.

All three have shown fantastic energy and passion for what they do and a dedication to quality and client service which is the core of everything we are about.”
