The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers Celebrates Summer at Auckland Castle
Auckland Castle was the venue for the recent summer visit and CPD session for the Northumbria and Cumbria branch of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV).
The visit was organised by Jonathan Wallis who is the current Chairman for the Northumbria and Cumbria branch of CAAV and a partner at land and property consultancy George F. White. The afternoon included an introduction and talk by the Chairman of Auckland Castle Trust, Jonathan Ruffer. His extraordinary vision led to the Trust’s acquisition of the Castle and the future development of Bishop Auckland. Members of the branch were then taken on an accompanied tour of the Castle by the Assistance Curator Andrew Ferrara. Following the tour, a CPD talk was delivered by Paul Normand on the management of historic properties such as Auckland Castle, disaster management planning and insurance of such properties.
Commenting on the visit, Jonathan Wallis said: “Our local branch of CAAV generally holds a summer visit and CPD event, and our recent visit to Auckland Castle was extremely interesting. We were delighted to hear Jonathan Ruffer’s vision for Bishop Auckland and pick up specialist aspects of managing historic properties such as Auckland Castle from Paul Normand. The visit was of particular interest to me as my mother’s family originates from Bishop Auckland and I have a very strong personal connection to the town. I am extremely grateful to everyone involved in the event as it was such an enjoyable and thought-provoking afternoon”.
CAAV is a specialist professional body and its members are agricultural and rural valuers who provide professional advice and valuation expertise on issues affecting the countryside. These range from tenancy matters, sales and purchase of farms and land to taxation issues, conservation matters and farming structures.
Chairman of Auckland Castle Trust Jonathan Ruffer said: “I was delighted to be asked to introduce the members of the Northumbria and Cumbria branch of the CAAV to Auckland Castle and I am pleased the visit appealed to the members, who responded really positively to it.”
