Three Little Pigs Charcuterie producer announced as winners of the George F White Farm Diversification Award 2014
George F White, in association with Driffield Agricultural Society, is pleased to announce that Three Little Pigs have been named this year’s Farm Diversification Award winner.
Three Little Pigs is a ‘perfectionist producer’ of cured meats based in East Yorkshire and the award was presented to the winners at this year’s Driffield Show, where they received a cash prize and silver salver.
Jon and Charlotte Clarkson who run the business said: “We were both very pleased to win the farm diversification award. A lot of hard work has gone into our farm, setting up with free range, rare breed pigs from scratch, so it’s lovely to feel that George F White and the Driffield Agricultural Society are supporting us. It’s like a big pat on the back.”
The Clarkson’s started raising their rare breed herd of Berkshire pigs at Kiplingcotes Farm with their first pig which they received as a wedding present. After tasting the delicious meat they decided to buy three little pigs as weaners, to produce meat for themselves. Due to the high quality and flavour of the meat produced they started their charcuterie business on their 480 acre arable farm near Beverley in 2005.
The couple are devoted to using rare breed pigs which have been reared in the most natural free range lifestyle. They have proven that this results in a better tasting meat as they have been awarded multiple Great Taste Awards and are now recognised nationally as a leading product in British Charcuterie.
Tom Mason, Partner at George F White commented: “We had very strong and diversified entries for the 2014 award. After much deliberation we decided that the Three Little Pigs were worthy winners based on the family farm at Dalton near Beverley. They produce high quality salami and chorizo which they supply to many prestigious outlets and farm shops including Selfridges and Fenwick’s; I was particularly impressed how the business has developed in a short period generating a good secure, diversified income for Jon and Charlotte.”
