Under starter orders for the Bedale Point to Point
If you have one day out in North Yorkshire this Easter weekend, make it the Bedale Point to Point on Saturday 7th April.
The Bedale Point-to-Point is one of the most picturesque point to point courses in Yorkshire. It’s set in beautiful parkland overlooked by Hornby Castle, always draws a big crowd and has a great atmosphere.
The event has been held here since 1947 and takes place on Easter Saturday each year, making it a traditional holiday outing for many Yorkshire families. Whether you’re into horses or not, the Bedale Point to Point is a great social occasion for everyone. Families, teenagers, country folk and city types alike, all enjoy the fabulous atmosphere and conviviality of the day. Lots of spectators enjoy picnics in the grounds, the beer tent bursts with bonhomie and the after-party is a fun night out for the young.
The Member’s Race – contested by horses who have qualified with the Bedale Hunt – is the one to go for, but the Ladies’ and Men’s Opens are also hotly contested. Yorkshire’s best pointers and jockeys line-up for these card highlights, which are often key in the race for the Yorkshire Area Championship. The Maiden race is always eventful viewing and this race is also a great opportunity to pick out next year’s winners.
Point-to-point is still an amateur sport which adds to its charm. Whilst big names in Yorkshire racing always turn up with great horses, the crowds come to support local farmers who own and train their own.
The Bedale Point to Point winners’ podium 2012 is sponsored by George F White, Rural Chartered Surveyors, Bedale. George F White will also be providing lunch for 200 invited guests with all food and drink supplied by local Yorkshire firms.
Tim Brown, from George F White in Bedale says: “We all look forward to the annual Bedale Point to Point enormously. It’s such a fantastic, sociable day out for all ages and gives everyone an opportunity to catch up, have fun and enjoy a great day’s racing in a marvellous setting. As well as providing lunch for invited guests, we’d also like to welcome visitors to our George F White stand on the day, where an array of locally produced pies from Cockburns the butchers and drinks will be on offer. Members of our team will be on hand to chat and offer advice from everything from the odds on the favourites and ones to watch, to rural valuations and single farm payments.”
Admission to Bedale Point to Point is £25 per car, or £10 per person if less than three people in the car
